Fibre-to-the-Home Completed in Chalmers Subdivision

Cochrane, ON – (Stepember 2, 2026) – A fire has caused extensive damage to electrical and telecommunications infrastructure in Cochrane, resulting in widespread interruptions to internet, television, telephone and cellular services.
The fire began shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, at an accessory building located on 3rd Street. The fire caused significant damage to infrastructure serving the community.
Police are investigating and secured the scene for several hours. Hydro and telecommunications crews were permitted to access the site following initial police investigation to assess the extent of the damage.
While electrical service was restored relatively quickly, the damage to the telecommunications network was considerably more extensive. The fire damaged the main fibre feed into the town, impacting multiple telecommunications services across the community.
Emergency telecommunications crews were immediately deployed to begin repairs. Technicians worked throughout the day and into the night to repair the damaged fibre infrastructure and restore services as quickly as possible.
“We are extremely thankful that no one was hurt in this incident,” said Roxanne DesRoches, General Manager of NIVO, Inspired by CochraneTel. “The damage to our telecommunications infrastructure was significant, and because this is the main fibre feed for the town, the impact was widespread. Our technicians and emergency crews have been working around the clock under very challenging circumstances to restore service. We understand how critical these services are to our customers, and we appreciate their patience and understanding while we work through this unexpected situation.”
NIVO, Inspired by CochraneTel, continues to work closely with emergency responders and other affected utilities as restoration efforts continue. Customers are encouraged to monitor NIVO’s official communication channels for updates as technicians continue repairs and service is progressively restored.
